RESEARCH INTERESTS

My three main areas of interest are sustainable consumption and production, business innovation and corporate practices and pollution prevention in CEEs and NIS.

The first research area of interest includes sustainable production and consumption, product policies,  and product-service systems (PSS). The SCP area is of primary interest, together with its main domains of food, mobility and housing. PSS area is another area of interest as it might have the potential to minimise environmental impact along the product-service life cycle by taking into consideration entire systems of function delivery. It pursues the idea of “more quality of life with less material intensity” by decoupling economic and consumption growth from environmental impact. The PSS concept is analysed at three levels: policy, company and consumers. The main challenge is to answer the question of how to stimulate the development of such systems by companies, what conditions should be present in order to facilitate this development and how consumers could be empowered and educated. The ultimate goal of such systems would be a closed-loop economy, in which consumers’ needs are satisfied with a fraction of current energy and material intensity and non-material values are prevailing.

Currently i am looking into the area of business innovation and corporate practices, both at macro- and micro-levels. Within this area are also such topics as supply chain management, with specific focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and especially purchasing practices of private and public institutions.

The third research area of professional interest is solutions to environmental problems in developing countries and countries in transition, especially Central and Eastern Europe and NIS. These solutions comprise pollution prevention, waste minimisation, environmental management systems, etc.

Research areas »

Sustainable consumption and production »

Sustainable consumption and production deals with life cycle environmental impacts of products and services, of production and consumption, addressing supply and demand sides with specific focus being on housing, mobility and food domains.

Business innovation and corporate practices»

Innovation studies deal with how national and international systems supporting innovation and R&D are developed and how they can be used for driving towards more environmentally sound innovations, as well as specific practices in organisations, such as green and ethical procurement and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Pollution prevention »

Pollution prevention is the area that includes all the good old strategies such as cleaner production, waste minimisation and environmental management systems. These strategies are still valid in Central and Eastern Europe and in Newly Independent States.
